Scale the Cliffs of Ignorance

There will always be people that tell you that your dreams are wrong that you're not allowed to want something no matter how much joy it brings you

They don't care about your feelings Only in holding shut the doors to their minds Building cliffs of ignorance all around them So they will never understand

Ignore them

Keep fighting for your dreams Do it in spite of them Scale the cliffs of ignorance Exist to show them they don't decide what's right for you

And when you're standing atop the mountain beaming with joy and pride They'll be at the bottom Grumbling and groaning in their misery

Stand tall Stand proud And never let anyone else decide what dreams you're allowed to have

I Refuse

There are people that want to take my right to live to erase people like me to force me to live in misery

I know they aren't all evil But they don't want to understand me And they do want to control me So how can I trust them?

Especially when They bully me into compliance Threaten me into hiding Force me to follow their rules

But one thing they will never do is make me give up

I refuse

No matter what else they take from me they will never take my hope my will to fight

I refuse

When they try to smother me I will scream out louder

When they try to keep me down I will rise up stronger

When they try to break my spirit I will refuse to give up

I've Got to Try

Will this next step make things better? Will it get me closer to my dreams? Will it shatter them? Will it destroy my hope?

I don't know

It's easier to not take it To hold onto the hope instead of risking losing it to clutch it for dear life

I don't know

But what I do know

If I don't take that step my dreams will never come true I'll stay in the same place forever wondering what could've been

Yeah, I'm scared of course I am but my dreams are worth it so I've got to try

I am Afraid

Fear follows me Nipping at my heels whispering all the reasons to run away and hide

She has her reasons I know they're valid The world can be cruel I've lived that reality

What has that caution cost me? A lifetime of hiding away of being anyone except me of being lonely and miserable

I'm tired of hiding I'm tired of letting Fear stop me I'm tired of lying to myself No more

Yes, I am afraid Yes, there are reasons to be But I won't let Fear stop me from being me

We’ll Keep Moving Forward

When we started it felt hopeless but we kept moving forward and tried our best We found small wins that kept our spirits up so we kept moving forward as light started to shine

It got brighter and every day we worked harder we kept moving forward and our smiles got bigger

We have a long way yet but we have renewed hope so we’ll keep moving forward and one day, we’ll get there

We’ll get to where we’re going

Fire Bird

On the ground I lie my wings, broken and bloody My flame is going out as I let the darkness take me No one needs my help What’s the point of trying? Anyone I find out there could so easily be lying

Can’t I just give up? It’s safer to stay here to close my eyes and give in to despair

Before I give up Before I close my eyes I see glimmers of hope a handful of small lights

They come to my side They help me to stand and as I rise from the ashes I remember who I am

I am the fire bird blazing through the night sky and no matter how broken my wings become I will always find the strength to fly

I will always use my flame to shine a light on the best of us a spark of hope in the darkness to help guide the rest of us

No matter what happens No matter who tries to break me I will keep my flame burning bright and I won’t let anyone take that from me

Who I Want to Be

Staying Afloat

Sinking, struggling Trying to stay afloat I want so badly to close my eyes let it all go dark and give up Nothing I used to love has any meaning anymore there’s no end to this only me and the sea and the endless dark

For a moment, I saw the light the sun broke the clouds And I felt its warmth on me again And for a time I had that light

That’s all gone now I have nothing else I took on too much and it destroyed the boat now the waves are all I have

What can I do now? What I’ve always done Struggle to stay afloat Because I have more than just the waves I have dreams

And I won’t let them die
