Fear follows me Nipping at my heels whispering all the reasons to run away and hide

She has her reasons I know they're valid The world can be cruel I've lived that reality

What has that caution cost me? A lifetime of hiding away of being anyone except me of being lonely and miserable

I'm tired of hiding I'm tired of letting Fear stop me I'm tired of lying to myself No more

Yes, I am afraid Yes, there are reasons to be But I won't let Fear stop me from being me

Through all of life’s hardships through loss, pain, and heartbreak Do your best to be your best even when your heart and soul ache Life will test and try you It will rarely be so easy So do your best to be your best even when the world stops being light and breezy

There will always be times when you’re pushed, shoved, knocked flat But always do your best to be your best even when it feels like no one has your back

Some days, you will fall far you’ll lie down and start to cry But when you do your best to be your best You’ll discover that you can still fly

But there is more, believe me The sea will once again grow calm Push through, find the strength to stand And the rain will wash away your qualms

It’s true that in the middle of the storm you can’t always see the light But that doesn’t mean it will never be there Keep going; everything’s gonna be alright

Not long ago You were always alone And no matter how you tried Nothing seemed to change that But you changed so much Trying so hard to fit in To be accepted To find somewhere to belong

Then one day you realized That after so much pretending You had no idea how to be who you are

I know what that’s like Because I was always alone Constantly changing so I could belong

So please believe me when I say that I want you to be who you are Not the face you created because you don’t have to pretend anymore

It’s only that one voice speaking And they only speak for themselves, it’s true Coming from a place of hardship and hurt Trying so hard to push it all onto you Their words, their cries, it’s all about them Their past, their misery, their mistakes But so many that know you stand by you And remind you that your future is yours to take
