This world doesn't want people like me

People who were born different People who were raised differently People who look and think differently

People like me People like you People like us

They try to beat us into place Convince us that no one wants us Erase us from the narrative Hope that everyone forgets about us Then leave us to deal with the trauma All on our own

But we are not alone We are not wrong Every single person in this world is different in a million different ways Who are they to say that their ways are right and ours are wrong?

We are different We are unique We cannot be silenced We cannot be erased

Because this is our world

and we will not be forgotten

Acceptance

We don't belong here They don't want us They won't accept us Even though it's all we know

We can keep trying Changing ourselves to fit in But when I do that I suffocate

I want to be me So I'm going to find a place Where I belong Even if I have to make it myself

I'd like it if you were there too The outcasts, the misfits We have our own place somewhere And we'll get there

My Pain Is Not Funny

My pain is not funny I am not a toy for your amusement

You can say over and over again that it's only a joke

But I am not laughing

I'm crying SCREAMING and that is not funny

Please stop taking my things Please stop moving them Please stay out of my personal space Please leave me alone

Those are boundaries and ignoring them might make you laugh but it tears me apart

Please respect my boundaries Please stop actively causing me pain Because my pain hurts And it is not funny

Walk Away

We can hear them laughing For me, it was a lifetime ago For you, it's happening right now They're going to keep laughing Because we're different Because we don't communicate like they do Because we don't understand the rules they have

It doesn't matter what they do They can't hurt us anymore They can't make us feel bad anymore

Take my hand And I'll show you what real kindness looks like

Let's leave them behind And walk away into a brighter future

The Cool Kid Table

It’s the cool kid table You know the one I mean It’s the one with the people that just fit in naturally They don’t stumble through life they aren’t terrified to talk people listen to their ideas and follow them when they walk

They’re the ones that made our label they branded us the weird ones but maybe they only did that because they wanted someone to shun

We’re here now, all being ourselves We all listen when someone talks we care what everyone has to say even if they have a different walk

The truth is that we’re all weird we don’t need the label and if everyone’s weird then every table is the cool kid table

I was so excited to see you that I jumped for joy and squealed But when I ran to greet you You backed away in fear I didn’t understand what you said I tried to be happy for you But I didn’t feel anything So you got up and left

I wanted to tell you I love you So I found the right words But when I spoke them to you You pushed me away

I don’t know why I’m this way My emotions don’t work right But someone will understand and accept me the way I am

I wanted to show how much I care So I sat and listened to you talk But I didn't respond or react So you thought I wasn't paying attention I tried again and again I smiled when you made a joke But I got it wrong again Because you weren't joking

I tried asking about something you'd said I was sure I'd gotten it right But you'd already told me the answer I just hadn't been paying attention

I want to listen I'm just not very good at it But I will keep trying to show that I care

Alone Together

You’re not like them Maybe you act a bit different Or you don’t look like everyone else Or they don’t understand you when you talk You laugh when everyone else cries You scream when everyone else laughs The wrong words slip out At the worst possible times

I’ve done those things too We’re not the same as everyone else But we can find a place together Just the two of us

One day, they’ll accept us Because there’s nothing wrong with us But until they see that, We can spend our time alone, together
