We all mess up We’ve all done something wrong And when we hurt someone the pain digs in and stays for very long We’ve all gone through it It’s another part of life But the choices you make next can lead to even more strife

You can brush it off act like it’s no big deal but when you’re hurting inside people will notice that your face isn’t real

Or you can take another path you can allow your mistakes to help you Help you heal and learn and grow And in time, blossom into something brand new

Messed Up

It’s Okay to Fail

You’re a Good Person

It’s easy to remember the times you spoke without thinking and hurt someone precious to you rather than when you made them smile It’s easy to remember the times when you didn’t understand and upset someone on accident rather than when you helped someone on purpose

When that’s all you remember it becomes easy to see yourself as nothing more than a collection of every mistake you’ve ever made

But I see something different

I can remember the times you made people smile the times you helped people the times you did the right thing

If you ever forget all you need to do is ask and I’ll be right there to remind you that you’re a good person

Don’t Be Afraid of the Past

Deep Down

Deep down inside is a world I don’t show full of darkness without light to cast a shadow I want to break free but the chains are too strong shackling me to the guilt of all the times I did wrong

Holding me back from happiness Forcing loneliness down my throat Shoving my mistakes in my face Tearing away any spark of hope

I can’t break the chains I can’t fly away to safety No matter how much I want it No one else can save me

On the outside I’ll smile Even if my own words can’t save me I’ll take the light I make in the dark and hold it aloft for others to see

Because Deep Down inside where the light can’t go is a dark and empty world that I never want anyone else to know

My Own Doing

There was a time when we were happy There weren't many other people with us But we didn't need anyone else We were happy to be together But I wanted something else Some sense of freedom A false vision of a greener field Full of sunlight, but devoid of people

Then I got it, but it wasn't greener It was dark, and cold Everything was dead, so I ran back But it was too late; you were already gone

I'll wait for you Longing for you to return Wishing that I could bring you back But you can never return

The bridge back is gone I struck a match and destroyed it I knew what I was doing I watched from the other side as you walked away

You're gone because I pushed you away So what happens now Is my own doing And I deserve it

Explosion

I knew I could beat her Strong and confident, that's me But there's a big difference Between bravery and stupidity

“Think before you act” Empty words repeated “Control your temper, young lady” I don't care, a fire has to stay heated I burned brighter than ever Only a single friend beside me I thought together we were enough I unleashed the flame out from inside me

We burned, we fought, we exploded Like I had many times before But lectures and school and practice Aren't the same as a war

She ripped apart my friend Then set her sights on me My body broken, I realized my mistake and struggled to crawl to safety

In the end, she dragged me back laughing like she'd had fun scars to cover my face I can never hide what I'd become

I cried to my family when I told them what I'd done they smiled and said “we know, dear” for that, you needn't feel glum

They'd already forgiven me Even those of them I'd attacked My best friend smiled at me anyway He told me “we've still got your back”

My flame is still burning and they're all there for me They fan the flame brighter And remind me of responsibility

I can keep it burning I've learned a lot from them I'll keep it safe and warm Without exploding again
