But for the sake of the sun Her light Her love Her hope

I cower and hide within the home I've made smelling the air straining my ears hoping I'll find the predators before they find me

I know they're out there I won't know them at first Until they attack me It's safer to stay here far, far away from everything that will hurt me

I'm only a small mouse covered in rainbow fur Different from all the others I only want to be happy Is that so wrong?

To be a small, happy rainbow mouse Is that so wrong?

Fear follows me Nipping at my heels whispering all the reasons to run away and hide

She has her reasons I know they're valid The world can be cruel I've lived that reality

What has that caution cost me? A lifetime of hiding away of being anyone except me of being lonely and miserable

I'm tired of hiding I'm tired of letting Fear stop me I'm tired of lying to myself No more

Yes, I am afraid Yes, there are reasons to be But I won't let Fear stop me from being me

Lost in the Dark

We all lose our way sometimes Even the best of us We fall into the dark and can’t get back out There are things in the dark shadows, memories, nightmares lurking where the light can’t go taunting, laughing, whispering

And the fear always sets in Not only of what’s in the dark but that you won’t find your way out that you’ll be trapped in there forever

But you’re not alone in the dark We’re here to help you Sometimes, it takes a helping hand to find the light again

There are plenty of things to fear but don’t let asking for help be one of them when you’re lost in the dark know that it’s okay to speak up and say

“I need help”

Let the World Turn

Time moves forward always ticking away and with it, the world changes little by little every day What you once found comforting fades away into the past and moments that happened just yesterday have now long since passed

It’s okay to let that change fill you with fear but remember that what was once new and scary Became safe and familiar

Change will happen, no matter what you do So why not let the world turn? There is still so much to see And always more you can learn

Excuses to Run Away

They are my moths I am their flame They are never far away Their whispering wings always so helpful Keeping the fear alive to keep me safe It's so easy to run Just pick one and go They'll still be there to tell me to keep on running

But the crackling flame says something else It reminds me all the reasons I have to push past the fear its quiet voice reminds me of dreams that can't be achieved unless I stay

So maybe this time I won't run away

Uncomfortable

It's uncomfortable to stand up To speak out when something's wrong Like standing before looming faceless judges That hold my fate in their hands When I speak out I feel so small and helpless Will anyone else think it's wrong? What if no one else stands up?

That fear has stopped me from acting But no more No longer can I be silent It's time to speak out

It's frightening to consider I don't even know how to start But I've got to do it It's my turn to help fix things

I hope you'll join me Even if you're scared I know it's uncomfortable But so is being shot in the back

Whisper of Fear

Fear waits around every corner In every dark alleyway Behind the eyes of every stranger Sheltered in the unseen and unknown A shadow lurking in the dark Whispering in your ear The predator, waiting for its prey To let down its guard

But fear keeps us safe Reminds us not to get too close It's easier to let fear take hold To shut us off from the world

It's only trying to help And it's hard to get close Trust and happiness are gifts Ripped away as soon as they've been given

Fear tells us how much we'll suffer It whispers from the dark To remind us not to get hurt That it's not worth the price

That's the choice of the whisper Stay safe alone in the dark Or risk the pain of getting close for a fleeting moment of happiness

Terrible Nightmare

I hear you creeping through the night spindly fingers reaching closer whispering in my ear reminding me why I should be afraid If I look round, you're not there But I can feel you in the prickles on my neck You're in the goosebumps on my arms You step to the beating of my heart

The light chases you away, but I can't always find the switch Even when I open my eyes you're still waiting for me

You live in the corner of the room the one with cobwebs where the light doesn't go In the shadow that nothing casts And the scraping in a forgotten room

I can't run away from you You're everywhere I go Always right behind me Breathing down my neck

You don't yell, you don't speak Your voice is only a whisper That's all it needs to be To make me afraid of you

Your Own Worst Enemy

I watch you while you sleep Infecting your dreams You can't run away from me I'm always waiting for you You're a failure at everything There's no place for you here Behind the false smiles Everyone wants you to leave

Fear isn't the bad guy It's what keeps you safe Be afraid of everything And nothing will hurt you

Don't trust them, trust me They'll hurt you, I know it You're not worth saving Nor protecting nor praising

Kindness exists in fairy tales But this is the real world It's cold and unforgiving And love is only a weakness

So stick with me for protection I guarantee you'll be fine After all misery loves company And we've got nothing but time
