We don't belong here They don't want us They won't accept us Even though it's all we know

We can keep trying Changing ourselves to fit in But when I do that I suffocate

I want to be me So I'm going to find a place Where I belong Even if I have to make it myself

I'd like it if you were there too The outcasts, the misfits We have our own place somewhere And we'll get there

A Little Love

I was a broken toy Cast aside by so many people Whenever they'd pick me up, I'd smile and hope they'd accept me But they never did

Over time, I learned that I was no good to anyone No one wanted me I could only look forward to being thrown away

Then one day, you came along Picked me up and looked me over And said, “She's not broken, She just needs a little love.”

You took me home You cared for me and loved me And showed me that I wasn't broken That all those other people were wrong I did just need a little love

It might be a long time before I really believe it but we've got plenty of time So thank you for giving me A little love

Love All of Me

You made an image and gave it my name You tried to capture me but it wasn't quite right

When you learned this you got angry “Why isn't she like this?” You asked yourself And you took it out on me

You never loved me You loved an image of me That you made up

That's not my fault

I'm kind and snarky Loving and anxious Flirty and cuddly And so much more That you will never know Unless you get to know me instead of that image In your head

Know all of me Accept all of me Love all of me

I Am Me

There’s so much about me to know All of it, I’m willing to show But you aren’t going to take the time to look Only flip through your outdated book trying to neatly categorize me all the while, refusing to recognize me to see what makes me truly unique because it’s so much easier to critique than to try to understand that I don’t follow your plan

There is so much more to me than you will ever see You can’t tie me down with chains and locks I don’t fit inside your box I need to spread my wings and fly free then everyone will know that I am me

You keep calling me names trying to make me feel ashamed forcing me to hide the real me deep inside But you’re not going to get to me I want everyone to get to see The beauty I have to share I know there are people who care I refuse to let myself feel terrible just because you can’t see what makes me special

There is so much more to me than your closed mind will ever be able to see you can’t cram me into your box and bury me underneath the rocks I’ll break out and fly away free then everyone will see that I am me

The Cool Kid Table

It’s the cool kid table You know the one I mean It’s the one with the people that just fit in naturally They don’t stumble through life they aren’t terrified to talk people listen to their ideas and follow them when they walk

They’re the ones that made our label they branded us the weird ones but maybe they only did that because they wanted someone to shun

We’re here now, all being ourselves We all listen when someone talks we care what everyone has to say even if they have a different walk

The truth is that we’re all weird we don’t need the label and if everyone’s weird then every table is the cool kid table

Among the changing leaves The pumpkins, the corn, the scarecrows Something different came along something we didn’t understand They frightened us, these new things They were bizarre, weird, creepy To cope with this, we made a label We called them “monsters”

In our fear of the strange We couldn’t see the obvious That what we thought were monsters were just people who were different

So embrace the strange Because they’re not monsters They’re just different And different doesn’t have to be scary

This world is full of possibilities Of people that look different It's not enough to ignore them To say “Not my problem” They will still be there If you don't help them Will anyone else? A Place Where Everyone Can Belong

What makes my home beautiful? Is it the trees or the flowers? Perhaps the riches and wealth The innovations that revolutionize Or the muscles it can flex What about the ideas it has? The intelligence or creativity? The works of art, the masterpieces

If you look closer, you'll see It's none of those things It's the people People plant the trees and flowers They collect wealth and riches They innovate and change the world Protecting and serving here and abroad With ideas no one else had considered Painting, sculpting, and crafting Creating and shaping a new world

The beauty of this land Comes from its diversity Without change, it becomes stale Gray, dull, lifeless Diversity and change drive us

So please Come one and all Give us your poor, tired, scared people The dreamers, the thinkers, the fighters All people who yearn for new opportunities You can all find a place here And together We will make this land beautiful We will wake this land one where everyone can belong

You Matter

Some people have a monster in their head It lurks in the shadows Creeping around in their nightmares Telling them “you don't matter” For others, the monsters live outside Some even don fake wings and a halo They call themselves protectors While still whispering “you don't matter”

And still others don't know it They can't hear their own voice Their fear or ignorance speaks for them Telling someone “you don't matter”

Stop building walls Let others in, and help them up See people for who they are and say “you matter”
