This world doesn't want people like me

People who were born different People who were raised differently People who look and think differently

People like me People like you People like us

They try to beat us into place Convince us that no one wants us Erase us from the narrative Hope that everyone forgets about us Then leave us to deal with the trauma All on our own

But we are not alone We are not wrong Every single person in this world is different in a million different ways Who are they to say that their ways are right and ours are wrong?

We are different We are unique We cannot be silenced We cannot be erased

Because this is our world

and we will not be forgotten

How Brightly You Shine

You can’t always see the light you wield How brightly it shines how far it reaches You can’t see the people that bask in its glow that are healed and helped that smile at it

You can’t always see how it changes the lives of those around you how it helps those lost in the dark

Even though you can’t see it the rest of us can so when you're down, we can remind you how brightly you shine

Because you see that's what love is It's being there for the good and the bad And I'm here for you Not just the good, but all the times

Always People Who Care

Even on the days when the people you love aren’t there Know that wherever they are they all still care You may feel all alone Stranded in the dark, lost and scared But as much as you’re missing them they miss you too, because they care

It can be hard to feel it Insecurity is a heavy burden to bear But sometimes, people will surprise you and remind you how much they care

It’s easy to want to change But please, to yourself be fair Always be who you really are Because there are always people who care

Alone Together

You’re not like them Maybe you act a bit different Or you don’t look like everyone else Or they don’t understand you when you talk You laugh when everyone else cries You scream when everyone else laughs The wrong words slip out At the worst possible times

I’ve done those things too We’re not the same as everyone else But we can find a place together Just the two of us

One day, they’ll accept us Because there’s nothing wrong with us But until they see that, We can spend our time alone, together
