After the End
Endings are hard To look back at something At someone And know that it's only a memory
Poetry for people who could use a little kindness
Endings are hard To look back at something At someone And know that it's only a memory
A flame went out A guiding light to millions One that had burned where few like it had burned before
It's uncomfortable to stand up To speak out when something's wrong Like standing before looming faceless judges That hold my fate in their hands
I believe in my country That waving flag promises freedom And hope and opportunity A bright new future
Looking out the window There's life, moving, whirling about A never ending motion Like a kaleidoscope always turning Changing the world in small ways People come, people go Nothing stays the same for long Not even a microsecond
You’re not like them Maybe you act a bit different Or you don’t look like everyone else Or they don’t understand you when you talk
Remember when this started? This whole unending nightmare It began, and darkness fell We were all scared
I helped you out And you got annoyed You didn't want my help Even if I thought you needed it
When they made you And I saw you coming I smiled at you Because I knew you were beautiful
