More Than a Bridge
In a small town built around a canal you'll find what looks to be an ordinary bridge
Poetry for people who could use a little kindness
In a small town built around a canal you'll find what looks to be an ordinary bridge
When life looks impossible And the path is an unending track I want you to know I've got your back
We look into the dark We can't know what's there What changes lie ahead Just beyond our vision So we squint and speculate But we can only do so much Until we venture down that dark tunnel
When we were kids Neither of us could've known All the ways you'd change and all the ways you'd grow
When you're different people don't see a person They see entertainment A walking punch line
Life didn’t go as planned Though you thought it all in hand Even though your plans fell through There’s nothing wrong with you
I try to get in I try to push past the walls keeping me stuck in the supporting cast
A weight has fallen on my mind Strapped in, stopping me thinking I want to write joyous, uplifting words But sometimes, I simply can't
Bringing me comfort when I most need it Soft and warm, shielding me from a world so cold My eternal friends, always there You never judge, you never scold
I used to think that on one bright day all of my misery would simply go away
