The Hawk's Flight
Lots of people have helped me They showed me how to spread my wings Lifted me up, helped me take flight But then, I didn't know where to go
Poetry for people who could use a little kindness
Lots of people have helped me They showed me how to spread my wings Lifted me up, helped me take flight But then, I didn't know where to go
As your time here ends And you say farewell to old friends
Everyone here is sad to see you go But worry not, we're happy for you, I hope you know
I made this for you It's not much Just a paper flower Folded with care
I've watched you weep for burned bridges Long for times now long gone I've seen you cringe under accusing eyes Clinging to the past, unable to let go
There was a time when we were happy There weren't many other people with us But we didn't need anyone else We were happy to be together
Endings are hard To look back at something At someone And know that it's only a memory
A flame went out A guiding light to millions One that had burned where few like it had burned before
It's uncomfortable to stand up To speak out when something's wrong Like standing before looming faceless judges That hold my fate in their hands
I believe in my country That waving flag promises freedom And hope and opportunity A bright new future
Looking out the window There's life, moving, whirling about A never ending motion Like a kaleidoscope always turning Changing the world in small ways People come, people go Nothing stays the same for long Not even a microsecond
